Top Ten Love Songs

Here we are at the end of February- the month best known for Valentine's day. Love it or hate it, there's nothing like showing yourself some love- see yesterday's Simple Spa at Home to get started. Then maybe, dim the lights, put on a candle or two and then add some tunes to really set the mood.

A bit of background into my selections. After many years of marriage I wanted to do something nice for my husband for our anniversary, but the budget was tight...so I made him a mix-CD titled "Love Songs." This was a throwback to our early days when we would make mix-cassette tapes for each other. The idea behind the songs I chose were both that they professed my love for him (I know you're wincing at the cheese-fest) as well as, love songs I would want to hear from him if he were to make me a love song mix. (Just an FYI: to date I'm on volume six...husband: 0. But who's counting?) In this roundabout way I really was professing my love for myself...as we all should. For more on this check out The Daily Love...

So without further ado, my favorites are (in no particular order):

That last one I couldn't find independent of the soundtrack, but the Twilight soundtracks are great for love songs! It is after all a love story. But I digress. You can click on any of the links for a listen...which I placed so if you weren't familiar with the song you could check it out and perhaps make your very own mix-cd to pop in during that foot soak or better yet, bath. Okay, so maybe a half hour alone for some lovin' and pamperin' isn't realistic, but a girl can dream, right?

What songs do you LOVE? Please share....

Love, Deirdre

  1. I love this! Music has been such a big part of my relationship with my partner, and I remember "back in the day" my friends and I...not to mention love interests...would make each other mix tapes (no CDs back then!) all the time. Recently I realized though, that even though music is a big part of our relationship, my Fella has never made me a mix! I have actually added a calendar reminder on his iPad that says "Make Tamar the BEST Mix Cd EVER!", it goes off at 8pm EVERY night and has been for over two months now...but alas, no mix in my hand yet :( I love your selections, maybe I'll just make one for myself! And yes, the Twilight soundtracks are GREAT for love songs, the one that puts me over the edge into weepy love swept emotion these days is "Turning Page" by Sleeping At Last. I have also always loved John Lennon's "Grow Old with Me" and Van Morrison's "Crazy Love" turns me to mush.

  3. Love this playlist. Especially the Bright Eyes. The video is a tear jerk-er, too (in a good way). Lovely of you to do this. It's such a great way to express 'Love' when our words are either not enough or become repetitive. And it's fun. Lately I've been listening to Zoe Muth and the Lost High Rollers. . .I've Been Gone http://www.maxilyrics.com/zoe-muth-and-the-lost-high-rollers-i%27ve-been-gone-lyrics-4c9b.html
