PMS Cravings: Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls

PMS Cravings, are you under their spell? The experiences each woman has during her Ladies Holiday are varied and unique, but one of the most common is the urge to eat something sweet or salty to satisfy a hunger unrelated to physical need.
Emotional eating around the time of PMS is serious and should be given time and attention, but when issues surrounding that have been resolved and you really just want some chocolate dang it, go ahead, indulge.
Each month I offer some alternatives to the bag of white chocolate covered pretzels (who knew I could eat a whole bag?!) or oreos. I know it was just Easter and the jelly beans are aplenty, but this treat is so much more satisfying and has some redemptive nutritional value, jelly beans do not, so I had to go for it.
I introduce Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls (aka heaven on a spoon) by Mama Pea aka Sarah Metheny. If you haven’t picked up her cookbook you should, if you don’t read her blog, I insist. She has the best sense of humor and some mad and creatively delicious skills in the kitchen.
The recipe is here and a gluten free variation, along with many others that are sure to satisfy. And by satisfy I mean blow your mind. The dough balls are definitely indulgent, but have peanut butter in them (see some nutritive redemption!) are made with whole wheat flour (or gluten free flours) and have far less sugar than the typical kind you’d make or buy. So take a bite, I promise you’ll like.
Oh and I almost forgot, remember how eating conventional raw-cookie dough is risky because of salmonella? Well, this recipe contains no eggs, so want to eat the dough? By all means DO IT!
  Just a lick
And a bite

If you like this and want more or if you're not into chocolate and peanut butter Mama Pea has other cookie dough recipes that are equally as delicious.

  1. Umm, these look delicious! What's not to love about anything that has peanut butter in it. Pms eating definitely takes place in my home, unfortunately. Xo

    1. Perfect for that kind of day...or week. Thank for commenting!

  2. Oh how yummy! Thanks for sharing and for joinig Flock Together today!

    1. They really are irresistable...glad you like!

  3. Yes, PMS cravings, have 'em now, yeah I know too much information. I find I crave salt a more than sweets, I think it maybe because I do not add salt to anything. While I have yet to do the research I also believe that we crave food due to a lose of vitamins and nutrients during our menstrual cycle.

What I really wanted to say was, I so totally love cookie dough. Followed you from Follow Friday, now following you on Twitter, Pintrest and Google.

    1. Joyce,
I think what you had to say about vitamin/mineral loss is so salient! I think our bodies have so much wisdom. And cookie dough so hits the spot. I hear a bit of salt on chocolate is really yummy! Thanks for stopping by.

We love to hear what you have to say- thank you!
