In The Mix Monday -- 15 Minutes

Is there an area in your life that you would like to work on, does it feel too overwhelming to even begin? Welcome to my life. There are more than a few things I would like to work on, but it can all feel like too much. Especially if you look at everything all at the same time.

One day it occurred to me, what if I just chose one thing to work on for 15 minutes a day until it became a habit? So I started with walking, just going out for a 15 minute stroll after I dropped the kids off at school. I even took my phone so I could time myself. Sometimes if the weather isn't good I will just walk in place for 15 minutes, or maybe just stretch, as long as it's 15 minutes of exercise.

You could do this with anything: play with your kids for 15 minutes, throw the Frisbee to the dog, check your email, meditate, clear clutter. I tend to be an all or nothing kind of person, I either do it all the way or not at all. So this is a good way to start to find the balance for me. Especially if you are feeling anxious about making a change, doing it slowly at first can relieve some of the stress.

Get out a notebook and write down all the things you would like to work on, cross them off as you accomplish them. Another thing that I found helpful, was letting go of all those projects I've been meaning to get to. They had been in my attic for years and every time I looked at them I felt overwhelmed and like a failure, so we sold them at a tag sale and I felt really good about it. If I didn't get to them before I had kids and a house I'm certainly not going to get to them now, LOL! Sometimes a girl just needs a bit of a fresh start.

So why not set a timer for 15 minutes and see where it leads you.

                                                                    Good Luck,

  1. This is great advice! I think that small steps are the very best way to establish good habits. They're easier to tackle and you can celebrate the smallest accomplishments for added motivation.

I found your site via the SITS Spring Fling, and I will be back!

  2. Great Idea. I have the same problem with getting over whelmed with all the things I want to do so I just end up doing nun of them. I will try this. THanks for sharing this at the Sunday Round Up.

    1. It is truly amazing what you can accomplish 15 mins at a time, it might take a few days longer but atleast you are tackling it. And let's face it sometimes we just dont have a lot of time during the day.
