Wet Dog Days of Summer
These days the "Dog Days of Summer" for me are filled with actual dogs. We are busy trying to help the puppy we rescued in December become a "real" dog. She just turned a year old in July. When we first got her she was terrified of everything. She has come a long way and the summer is really helping. We are spending more time outside getting used to the sounds of lawn mowers, sprinklers and fireworks.
My favorite thing is trying to get Valentine to swim. My husband picks her up gently in his arms, which she loves. He slowly walks down the stairs into the water with her. When he puts her in the water she starts to flail around like a fish out of water. Some how she hasn't got the message that she is mostly black lab with webbed paws and she's supposed to love swimming LOL!
Our older dog seems to like the pool again this year. It's so fun watching her splash around with the kids. We call her "Holly Beaver" since she looks like some kind of water creature. Every time my husband dives in she barks and tears into the water to save him. I guess she thinks he can't do it by himself. The pool seems to be a source of much fun for us this year. The other day I jumped in while wearing my clothes. The kids thought it was hysterical.
I just love floating around on my back and completely relaxing every part of my body. Until the dog or kids swim by and knock me over!
Hope you are staying cool in this crazy heat! If you have any fun Summer stories please share.
