I usually love Summer and don't want to see it end. But this year, I can not wait for Fall to come. I'm not sure if it's because this Summer has been especially H O T Hot and humid, but I am ready for the change of seasons. Here are some of the things I love best about Autumn in New England.
.) Cool nights. I'm looking forward to it getting dark early so I can enjoy the night sky without having to stay up really late. And it's definitely less buggy. I love putting on my comfy jammies and bundling up in a blanket to sit out and watch the stars.
.) Getting back into a routine. Something about getting back to school and having an actual schedule and bedtime just feels good to me. I can plan grocery shopping, house cleaning, errands, etc., so much more easily.
.) Apple picking. This is so simple yet soooo much fun. I love all these things that you can only do in New England in the Fall.
.) Pumpkins. We just love them at our house.
.) Changing of the leaves. The colors can be so spectacular, you won't see anything like this anywhere else. I love the sound of the crunchy leaves under my feet, and the smell of them too.
.) Halloween. When I was a kid you hardly ever saw your actual costume because it was so cold you had to bundle up in your winter clothes. I grew up in the country, no sidewalks and houses were far apart. The town next to us hosts a trick or treat for the kids at the local businesses. You just walk up and down the sidewalk on the main street and stop in at the shops. It's so fun, my kids get to see lots of their friends this way too.
.) Later Sunrise. I really enjoy the fact that the sun isn't shining in my window at 4:30 am. It's nice to be able to enjoy a slow quiet start to the day.
.) Sweaters and Jeans. I love being able to get back in my jeans and being all snuggly in a warm sweater or sweatshirt.
.) Cool rainy days. These are the best for getting all cuddled up on the couch with a blanket, a good movie or book and a big cup of home made soup.
.) Weekend rides. I love riding around in the country seeing the cows, the leaves, the pumpkin fields. The best part is you can have the windows down, no need for AC!
