In The Mix Monday--Surviving Winter

It seems like the weather turned cold and dreary very fast.  Wasn't it just yesterday that we were sweltering in 105 degree temps with unimaginable humidity LOL!  Don't get me wrong I have never before looked this forward to Fall and Winter.  Especially since lately we have been told we need to stay in after dusk due to mosquitoes carrying the EEE and West Nile viruses.  So it will actually be a relief of sorts when the flakes start to fly here.

Usually though I have a tough time with the bone chilling temps and lack of sunshine.  This Winter however I have decided I'm going to make the best of it.  I am going to listen to music from places like Hawaii, Tahiti and the Caribbean. Target usually has some great CD's, or check itunes.  Watch movies set in tropical places, hopefully with some comic relief like, Just Go with It and Couples Retreat.   I will take a few minutes each day to sit in the sunshine coming in from a window, close my eyes and pretend I'm lying on a beach somewhere.  Maybe even try to grow some grass in a tray so I can put my feet in it LOL!

Before we had kids my husband and I used to love to take a week mid winter and go somewhere warm.  It really helped us manage the Winter blahs.  However since budgets are a little tight, we are going to have to get creative.  Sometimes my kids just like to put their bathing suits on and pretend it's beach weather. They get out the towels and sunglasses and make the best of it.  Maybe a warm foot soak in some water with sea salt, imagining I'm sitting in a beach chair with my feet in the surf.

If you have any good ideas for surviving Winter, please, please. please share!
